Key Points
To ensure our product keeps pace and remains relevant for our customers and their requirements, we’re always asking for feedback to learn and improve. Over the last twelve months we have been working on some big changes, and today we’re thrilled to announce some exciting updates to our Essential Plan.
Read on to find out about these changes…
What is changing?
- Essential plan users will now have access to on-demand scans, which can be run whenever they make changes to their systems or want to check remediation progress
- Essential users will also get an editable scan schedule, allowing them to set and change a scanning schedule convenient for their processes and working patterns
- Scans under our Essential plan will now be powered by the world's leading open-source vulnerability scanner: OpenVAS
- Essential users will now benefit from the ability to snooze issues as false positives, or as accepted or mitigated risks
Why are we making these changes?
Each of our plans is tailored to certain types of customers, to better reflect their needs we are making these changes to align with the requirements of these customers. For example, we received lots of feedback that running additional scans would be helpful on the Essential plan, and to enable this flexibility, customers are happy to use open-source scanning engines under the hood. Making these changes is designed to bring us more in line with what our customers want.
What are the differences between the scanning engines?
There is a substantial overlap between the vulnerabilities that each scanning engine checks for but in terms of a raw count on the number of vulnerabilities covered by each scanning engine, our Pro plan has checks for a greater number. Our Pro plan has checks which focus on vulnerabilities within self-hosted enterprise software. Whereas, OpenVAS has more checks for open-source software and devices used by small-medium businesses.
Where can I read more about the differences between the scanning engines?
Read our in-depth analysis of the two scanning engines to learn more about the differences. It details the overall vulnerability coverage, coverage by risk rating, the differences between remote and local checks, and more.
Can I use both scanning engines?
At this point, you cannot use both scanning engines within a single account.
